Oceanside hasn't had much luck against Torrey Pines recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Oceanside Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the Torrey Pines Falcons at 5:30 p.m. Oceanside will be strutting in after a victory while Torrey Pines will be coming in after a defeat.
Oceanside will head into Monday's matchup on the come-up: they were handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Eastlake on Monday. Oceanside blew past Eastlake 58-31. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Martina Griffin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 5 for 9 on her way to 13 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Kaye, who posted nine points and four steals.
Oceanside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Torrey Pines' good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 60-52 to Mater Dei Catholic.
Oceanside will need focus on slowing down Katie Tal, one of several Torrey Pines players who made an impact when they last played. She earned 14 points and seven boards. Those seven rebounds gave Tal a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Charley Pegg, who had seven points along with nine boards and five assists.
Oceanside now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Torrey Pines, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6.
Wednesday's match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Griffin and Lily Oliva. Griffin has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 12.5 points, 4 steals, and 4.6 assists. For her part, Oliva has averaged 10.8 points, 1.9 steals, and 3.2 assists.
Oceanside came out on top in a nail-biter against Torrey Pines when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 41-38. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Torrey Pines' Grace Trusso, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
