Sylmar is on a four-game streak of home losses, Panorama a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The Sylmar Spartans will welcome the Panorama Pythons at 5:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Wednesday, Sylmar was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 50-45 to Reseda.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Yaneli Zuniga-Hernandez, who posted 16 points and three steals. That was a full 35.6% of Sylmar's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Pineda, who earned eight points and seven boards.
Meanwhile, Panorama played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 69-29 loss at the hands of San Fernando. The Pythons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-17.
Sylmar will have to contain VALERY QUEZADA as she made an impact in Panorama's last game. She went 10 for 17 en route to 21 points and eight rebounds. The contest was QUEZADA's third in a row with at least ten points.
Even though they lost, Panorama smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive games.
Sylmar's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Panorama, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sylmar has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Panorama struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Sylmar strolled past Panorama in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 58-40. Does Sylmar have another victory up their sleeve, or will Panorama turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
