Dos Palos is a perfect 10-0 against Mendota since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Broncos will challenge the Aztecs at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Dos Palos took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let Avenal get on the board and left with a 23-0 win. With that victory, the Broncos brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Gilbert Ramirez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since April 4th.
In other batting news, Tevin Clay was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since April 4th. Chaz Merrell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Dos Palos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .744. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Mendota waltzed into their match on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 14-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Aztecs, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Mendota pushed their record up to 10-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dos Palos, their record now sits at 10-11-1.
Dos Palos skirted past Mendota 8-6 in their previous matchup on April 8th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
