The Mar Vista Mariners's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Escondido Charter White Tigers at 9:30 a.m. on December 28th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Wednesday, Mar Vista was beaten by Montgomery 68-19. Mar Vista has not had much luck with Montgomery recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Mar Vista's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Allyson Bell, who scored eight points, and Anissa Smith who scored seven points. Smith scored a full 36.8% of Mar Vista's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Escondido Charter's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They fell to Calexico 40-36.
Kami Gillis put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Faith Grayson, who scored six points.
Mar Vista now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Escondido Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's matchup: Mar Vista have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 80% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Escondido Charter, though, as they've only made 26.7% of their threes per game this season. Given Mar Vista's sizeable advantage in that area, Escondido Charter will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything went Mar Vista's way against Escondido Charter in their previous meeting back in December of 2016 as Mar Vista made off with a 44-24 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mar Vista since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
