Entering last weekend's Texas Class 6A girls soccer title game in Georgetown,
Tompkins (Katy) was a win away from securing not only an unbeaten state championship season but potentially the final No. 1 national ranking for the winter.
But
Southlake Carroll had other ideas, spoiling Tompkins' coronation in unthinkable fashion with a 5-0 win Saturday.
Madison Drenowatz notched a hat trick and Carroll led comfortably 3-0 at the half. The Dragons finished the season 28-1-2, winning their second state title since 2008.
