The West Lauderdale Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Newton County Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Lauderdale knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Newton County likes a good challenge.
Even though West Lauderdale has not done well against Leake Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. West Lauderdale took down Leake Central 69-54.
Meanwhile, Newton County pushed their score all the way to 65 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a tough 85-65 loss at the hands of Choctaw Central. While losing is never fun, Newton County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while Choctaw Central is ranked ninth).
West Lauderdale's win bumped their record up to 18-3. As for Newton County, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
West Lauderdale was able to grind out a solid victory over Newton County when the teams last played on January 9th, winning 80-67. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Lauderdale since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
