Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 22 to 14 on the offensive boards, a fact the San Diego Cavers proved on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 45-30 victory over Point Loma. For San Diego, this counts as revenge for the 44-40 defeat Point Loma walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead San Diego to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lara Saucedo, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Saucedo hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Shanti Glenn, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, Point Loma still got an impressive performance from Rachael Morris, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 40% of Point Loma's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
San Diego is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season. As for Point Loma, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Diego will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Morse at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. San Diego will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 718th, while Morse is ranked 249th). As for Point Loma, they will head out on the road to take on Palo Verde Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Palo Verde Valley is coming into the contest with seven straight losses at home, meaning Point Loma will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
