On Thursday, it was a hard-fought match, but Chaparral had to settle for a 38-36 loss against Mira Mesa. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Chaparral came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Mira Mesa is ranked 607th).
Despite the defeat, Chaparral saw an underclassman step up: Zetta Faasua dropped a double-double on 18 points and 22 rebounds. Faasua scored a full 50% of Chaparral's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Maria Rashidi, who scored six points.
Even though they lost, Chaparral were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mira Mesa only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Ivorii Seals continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mira Mesa, scoring 23 points along with six blocks. The match was Seals' tenth in a row with at least ten points. Savannah Hall was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 15 rebounds.
Chaparral's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Mira Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
