The Point Loma Pointers will challenge the Eastlake Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Point Loma 2.4, Eastlake 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Eastlake will be up against a hot Point Loma squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Point Loma's way against Rancho Bernardo on Monday as Point Loma made off with a 10-2 win. Considering the Pointers have won five games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Phoenix Brant was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Brant was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Branden Keeling, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Quinten Jones, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Point Loma lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Titans on Friday. Eastlake walked away with a 4-1 victory over Poway.
Like Point Loma, Eastlake also got a great game from a two-way player: Jordan Gomez. He struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). What's more, Gomez gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Max Tello looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Joel Vargas was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Hamza Hatahet was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Eastlake's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Point Loma, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Eastlake's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Point Loma has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. It's a different story for Eastlake, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain Point Loma's hitters?
Point Loma came out on top in a nail-biter against Eastlake when the teams last played last Friday, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Point Loma since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
