The Athenian Owls are taking a road trip to take on the Swett Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Athenian is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
Athenian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Cloverdale 6-5.
Wyatt Poage was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Swett, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top against Point Arena on Saturday by a score of 7-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.
Adan Miranda and Michael Golden were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Miranda tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Golden kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Swett is 9-0-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-6 otherwise. At the plate, Miranda went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Golden got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Golden has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayden Barker, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Ayden Holleran also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Swett hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Point Arena struck out 11 times.
Swett is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Athenian, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-11.
