After flying high against the Workman Lobos last Monday, the Azusa Aztecs came back down to earth. Azusa received a tough blow on Wednesday as they fell 41-23 to Nogales. Azusa has not had much luck with Nogales recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Azusa's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lilliana Maldonado, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Ruby Untoria who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Nogales' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordin Glass led the charge by scoring 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Martinez, who scored 11 points.
Azusa has been struggling recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Nogales, their win ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Azusa will square off against Duarte at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Nogales will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Workman at 5:30 p.m. on January 29th. Workman comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last eight games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
