Basketball Recap: Martin Luther Falls Despite Big Games from Kris Skibola and Justin Trail

Martin Luther was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 73-71 heartbreaker at the hands of the Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mavericks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Martin Luther's loss came despite strong showings from Justin Trail and Kris Skibola. Trail dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 boards, while Skibola went 8 of 19 en route to 26 points. That's the most points Trail has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Damien Peterson, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 12 points and three blocks.

Martin Luther's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Morrisville-Eaton, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season.

Martin Luther will be playing in front of their home fans against Knox at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Martin Luther is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.5 points per game this season. As for Morrisville-Eaton, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-63 victory against Sauquoit Valley on the 3rd.
