Leo hasn't had much luck against Saint Ignatius College Prep recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Lions will head out to take on the Wolfpack at 6:45 p.m.
On Tuesday, Leo wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Michael Lewis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, Derrick Davis III made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Joshua Richards was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Saint Ignatius College Prep waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Cadets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolfpack have posted since March 21st.
Colin Sims tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Saint Ignatius College Prep saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Oscar Molloy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run. That's the most hits Molloy has posted since back in March. Another was Reid Hites, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Saint Ignatius College Prep's record now sits at 12-8. As for Leo, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
Leo's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Lions have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Saint Ignatius College Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Leo continue to outrun the ball?
Leo suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Saint Ignatius College Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
