It was a good run, but the Canyon Cowboys unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They lost to Hart on the road by a decisive 65-48 margin. While losing is never fun, Canyon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while the Indians are ranked 80th).
Despite the loss, Canyon saw an underclassman step up: Isabella Escribano scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Josie Regez, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Hart got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Morgan Mack out in front who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Cornejo, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Canyon's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-13. As for Hart, they pushed their record up to 22-5 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home.
Canyon will head out on the road to challenge the Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Orange Lutheran knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully the Cowboys like a good challenge. Hart does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
