The Willits Wolverines won the last time they faced the Laytonville Warriors, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Willits breezed by Laytonville at home to the tune of 65-16. With that win, Willits brought their scoring average up to 52 points per game.
Leading Willits to victory were Cecily Potter and Hazel Cooke. Potter dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 steals, while Cooke dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Cooke has scored at least 25% of Willits' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Chavez, who scored 9 points along with 3 steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Willits and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Laytonville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Willits will face off against Arcata at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Arcata presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Willits in California (Arcata is ranked 164th, while Willits is ranked 813th). As for Laytonville, they will head out on the road to face off against Calistoga on December 7th.
