Coalinga is a perfect 10-0 against Avenal since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Horned Toads will face off against the Buccaneers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Coalinga has three straight victories, Avenal has 17 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Coalinga will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Firebaugh, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Horned Toads put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 15-4 win on Tuesday. The Horned Toads might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by nine runs or more this season.
Luke Wojewoda made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Coalinga let Landon Kiker and David Moreno run wild. Kiker got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Moreno went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Kiker a new career-high. Ryan McDaniel was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Coalinga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Avenal's offense. They lost 23-0 to Dos Palos on Tuesday.
Avenal saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marco Abundiz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That hit marked the first that Abundiz has got this season.
Coalinga's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Avenal, their loss dropped their record down to 0-17.
Avenal's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Coalinga hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. It's a different story for Avenal, though, as they've only averaged .198. Will they be able to contain Coalinga's hitters?
Everything went Coalinga's way against Avenal in their previous matchup on April 8th, as Coalinga made off with a 20-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Horned Toads since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
