The Magnolia West Mustangs and the Smithson Valley Rangers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Magnolia West Mustangs had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Rangers by a score of 20-17. While losing is never fun, Magnolia West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Smithson Valley is ranked 43rd).
Although Magnolia West took the loss, they still got scores from Deandre Milliner and Gus Jordan.
Magnolia West's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Smithson Valley, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 11-1.
Magnolia West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Smithson Valley is on the road again on Friday and play against College Station at 12:30 p.m. on November 24th. College Station knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 contests -- so hopefully Smithson Valley likes a good challenge.
