Las Plumas has gone 9-1 against Oroville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Las Plumas made easy work of Orland and carried off a 9-1 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Thunderbirds have posted against the Trojans since April 5, 2022.
Colsen Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Rosauer, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Las Plumas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Oroville, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Corning 4-3.
Kendall Zarate was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Oroville's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 1-13 when he doesn't). Zarate was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Zarate wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Izaya Keck, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Keck has hit this season.
The victory made it two in a row for Las Plumas and bumps their season record up to 7-8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Oroville, their record now sits at 5-14.
Las Plumas took their victory against Oroville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunderbirds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
