The Dunsmuir Tigers lost against the Tulelake Honkers back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Dunsmuir ended up on the wrong side of a rough 57-31 walloping at the hands of Tulelake.
Despite the defeat, Dunsmuir had strong showings from Cyla Clemens, who scored 20 points along with six steals and five rebounds, and Grasie Hunt, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds. Clemens is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Tulelake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maritza Chavolla led the charge by scoring 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Kayla Frey was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Dunsmuir's loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.3 points per game. As for Tulelake, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
Dunsmuir will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Butte Valley at 5:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. As for Tulelake, they will head out on the road to face off against Crosspoint Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
