Westside hasn't had much luck against Aquinas recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The two teams, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Westside's offense. They came up short against Grovetown two weeks ago, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Patriots' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Aquinas ultimately got the result they hoped for two weeks ago. They had just enough and edged out Richmond Academy 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Irish have posted since April 1, 2025.
James Sherry made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Patrick Sherry and Greg Doman did most of the damage at the plate: Patrick got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Doman went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was CJ Johnson, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Aquinas has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Westside, their loss dropped their record down to 9-16.
Westside might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Aquinas in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
