The 2022 high school football season is loaded with some big games with national ranking implications. This year's slate stacks up with any season over the past decade, so much so that these matchups missed our top 10 countdown: No. 5 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) vs. St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia), No. 20 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) vs. Los Alamitos (Calif.) and No. 12 Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.) vs. No. 21 Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.).
Eight of the 10 games are preseason MaxPreps Top 25 matchups and six of them featuring out-of-state opponents.
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) —
the 2021 MaxPreps National Champion — is the only school featured three times on our countdown. The Monarchs tackle No. 9 Centennial (Corona, Calif.), No. 6 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) and No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.). IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) and St. John Bosco (Calif.) are the other schools to have more than one game featured.
The Braves open the season Aug. 26 in Texas vs. Allen at its $60 million stadium and it checks in as our third-rated game of the 2022 campaign.
All 10 games featured will have major ramifications when it comes to deciding who finishes the season at the MaxPreps National Champion.
