The Grand Terrace Titans will head out to face off against the San Gorgonio Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Grand Terrace has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Grand Terrace turned things around against Arroyo Valley on Friday. They blew past the Hawks 56-16. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while the Hawks are ranked 1039th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grand Terrace can attribute much of their success to Jayleen Barajas, who went 7 for 8 on her way to 17 points. Kayla Duran was another key player, putting up six points in addition to six boards and three steals.
San Gorgonio hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They strolled past Kaiser with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 45-29.
Grand Terrace better keep an eye on Jazmin Benson. She was instrumental in San Gorgonio's win, dropping a triple-double on 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Benson has scored at least a third of San Gorgonio's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Star Ramos, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 17 points and five steals.
San Gorgonio was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
San Gorgonio's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Grand Terrace, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 11-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Grand Terrace has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35 boards per game. However, it's not like San Gorgonio struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Grand Terrace strolled past San Gorgonio in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a score of 61-42. Does Grand Terrace have another victory up their sleeve, or will San Gorgonio turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
