Madison County hasn't had much luck against Lafayette recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Madison County will be playing at home against Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Madison County 3.8, Lafayette 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Last Friday, Madison County got the win against Aucilla Christian by a conclusive 9-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys.
Dalton McNutt made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Madison County is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. McNutt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other pitching news, Mar'Kevian Stephens looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Madison County's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-2 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Micah Newman, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Madison County is undefeated when Newman posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Alden Richie was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Madison County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Lafayette waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 15-12 victory over the Bears. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Hornets, who until this contest were averaging 3.46 runs allowed.
Lafayette got a big performance out of Hyatt Richardson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Garrett Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Lafayette pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Madison County, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Madison County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lafayette struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
