Moreau Catholic extended their winning streak to five on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 8-7 in the process. They had just enough and edged out the Irvington Vikings 3-1. Three seems to be a good number for the Mariners as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Aiden Perry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has become a key player for Moreau Catholic: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Nate Elizarrey was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

As for Irvington, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 29, 2022, but that streak is no more.

On Irvington's side, Giovanni Pena was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Pena has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Irvington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aayush Shah, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Coming up, Moreau Catholic will face off against American Canyon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Irvington, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on James Logan at 4:00 p.m. on the 30th. The Colts' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
