Winning is just a little bit easier when you make nine more threes than your opponent, a fact the Mingo Central Miners proved on Friday. They claimed a resounding 74-43 victory over Tug Valley at home. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mingo Central.
Leading Mingo Central to victory were Dalaney Grimmett and Addie Smith. Grimmett scored 24 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Smith scored 37 points along with six assists. That makes it six consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Mingo Central's points.
Despite the defeat, Tug Valley saw an underclassman step up: Bailee Hall dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Haven Deskins was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Mingo Central's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Tug Valley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.
Mingo Central will head out on the road to challenge Lincoln County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Lincoln County is on a three-game streak of home losses, Mingo Central a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Tug Valley will take on Man at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
