The Monte Vista Mustangs waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They blew past Amador Valley, posting a 58-31 win at home. Given Monte Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Amador Valley is ranked 649th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Monte Vista found their leader in underclassman Alyssa Rudd, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Rudd has scored at least a third of Monte Vista's points. Another player making a difference was Mahi Jariwala, who scored 11 points.
Monte Vista is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Amador Valley, they dropped their record down to 6-17 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road.
Monte Vista won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Christian Brothers at 6:30 p.m. on January 27th. Christian Brothers knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Monte Vista likes a good challenge. As for Amador Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Kimball at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
