Baseball Recap: Ladysmith Comes Up Short

Ladysmith extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-19. They came up short against the Barron Golden Bears, falling 8-0. The Lumberjacks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Ladysmith saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danny Vacho, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Vacho is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

As for Barron, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Barron's side, Troy McDonough made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave McDonough a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Glendon Thompson was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and six RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Zac Edwards was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with six stolen bases and five runs.

Coming up, Barron will face off against Northwood at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ladysmith will be paying especially close attention to the Golden Bears' matchup: after the Golden Bears face off against the Evergreens, they'll take on Ladysmith again on Thursday.
