Even though the Medicine Valley Raiders have not done well against the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Medicine Valley escaped with a win against the Broncos by the margin of a single free throw, 51-50. That's another feather in the cap for Medicine Valley, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Medicine Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stella Heapy, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Heapy has scored at least a third of Medicine Valley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Remmi Stout, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Wauneta-Palisade lost, one person who can't be blamed is Peyton Cox. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Cox is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was GraCee Goings, who scored 14 points along with five assists.
The win makes it two in a row for Medicine Valley and bumps their season record up to 8-9. As for Wauneta-Palisade, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.
Medicine Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Bertrand is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses. As for Wauneta-Palisade, they will head out on the road to challenge the Sailors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sutherland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Tuesday.
