High school football rankings: Hamilton joins MaxPreps Top 25 after wild comeback win over Bishop Gorman

Nicco Marchiol and Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) join the MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings after pulling off the wildest comeback of the 2021 high school football season. Entering at No. 18, the Huskies scored 18 points in the final 65 seconds to stun Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) 25-24 on national television.

Bishop Gorman appeared to have the game well in hand, before Matthew Krneta connected on a 46-yard field goal with 1:05 remaining to cut the deficit to 24-10. Hamilton then secured two onside kicks and scored two touchdowns. Head coach Michael Zdebski elected to go for the win with eight seconds left and Marchiol ran it in for the game-winner.

Bishop Gorman dropped to No. 20 with its first loss of the season.

Milton (Ga.) was idle this week, but joins Hamilton as the other new team in this week's MaxPreps Top 25. Five-star junior defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton made his season debut two weeks ago in the Eagles' 28-21 win over St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia). That win looks better after the Hawks took down previously ranked Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) 35-3 on Friday.

No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) closed out its non-league schedule 5-0 and hasn't trailed at any point this season. The Braves are off this week before hosting No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) on Oct. 1. The Monarchs were idle and return to action against La Mirada (Calif.) on Sept. 24.

Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) moved up to No. 8 after beating Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) 44-22. The Friars also haven't trailed at any point this season, outscoring their first four opponents 200-50.

St. Xavier (Cincinnati) improved to 5-0 and moved up three spots to No. 10, knocking off previously unbeaten Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) 49-16. The defending Division 1 state champions are riding a 13-game win streak dating to 2020.

No. 14 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) is three wins from breaking the state mark of 48 consecutive victories after beating American Fork 51-22. The Chargers get 6-0 Skyridge (Lehi) next. Last season, Jaxson Dart led Corner Canyon to a 29-26 comeback victory over Skyridge.
