It was a good run, but the Chavez Titans unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They were beaten by Shafter 62-31. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chavez in their matchups with Shafter: they've now lost eight in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Chavez lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hannah Diaz. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points.
Chavez struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Shafter pulled down 27 offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Shafter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kyla Schooley, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Schooley hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Alexia Ramirez was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Chavez's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-9. As for Shafter, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
Chavez will head out on the road to square off against McFarland at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Shafter, they will be playing at home against Taft at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Taft focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Monday.
