The Castro Valley Trojans pushed their score all the way to 63 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 70-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Miramonte. Even though they lost, Castro Valley's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 51 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Castro Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Qiomy Espinoza, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Espinoza scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Naomi Chew, who scored 16 points along with six assists.
Castro Valley struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Karena Eberts continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Miramonte, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 18 rebounds. The contest was Eberts' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Willa Mapaye, who scored 12 points.
Castro Valley now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Miramonte, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season.
Castro Valley won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against San Marin at 1:30 p.m. on December 29th. San Marin's defense has only allowed 28.1 points per game this season, so Castro Valley's offense will have their work cut out for Castro Valley.
