Grand Island extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-6. They lost 10-1 to the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks. The matchup marked the Islanders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Grand Island saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madisyn Hostetler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was Hostetler's first of the season.
As for Lincoln Southwest, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.5 runs this season.
On Lincoln Southwest's side, Maisey McCarty was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. McCarty has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in August of 2024.
In other pitching news, Bryn Pribnow tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Brenly Noerrlinger and Veronica Vela did most of the damage at the plate: Noerrlinger went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI, while Vela went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Noerrlinger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leyton Murphy, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Grand Island will face off against Lincoln Southeast at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lincoln Southwest, they will square off against Fossil Ridge at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The SaberCats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.57 runs per game on average), something the Silver Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
