The El Camino Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 57-43 bruising from Vista. While losing is never fun, El Camino can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1077th, while Vista is ranked 453rd).
Despite the defeat, El Camino had strong showings from Aleigha Tatum, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and five steals, and Alana Hoskins, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds. That was a full 34.9% of El Camino's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaelle Fulford, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
El Camino has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Vista, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Camino won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Madison at 11:00 a.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Madison focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday. Vista's road trip will continue as they head out to face Canyon Crest Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th.
