Juju Watkins, the top-rated player in high school girls basketball and last year's MaxPreps National Player of the Year, announced today that she has committed to play collegiately at USC.
The
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) star recently signed an NIL deal with Nike and was perhaps the most-widely sought-after player in the country after leading the Trailblazers to a CIF Open Division title last season and a No. 3 spot in the final MaxPreps Top 25.
The 6-foot Watkins is the complete package, a player who can lead the team in a set offense, run the break and finish at the rim. She has touch from mid-range and distance and is an elite defender. She posted 24.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per night last season as Sierra Canyon went 30-2.
"I think we're all very well aware of how talented JuJu is," Trailblazers coach Alicia Komaki said in her press conference following Sierra Canyon's 85-61 state title victory.
Now the fans of USC will see it on a nightly basis.
The USC recruiting class wasn't highly ranked but Watkins improved the Trojans' stock as she stays close to home where she grew up in Watts.
