Thousand Oaks hasn't had much luck against Newbury Park recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lancers will host the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. Newbury Park took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Thousand Oaks, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Thousand Oaks turned things around against Fillmore on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Flashes 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lancers have posted since February 17th.
Caden Pennington looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Matthew Magruder, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Dane Holt was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Newbury Park lost 11-3 to Calabasas on Friday. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Nathaniel Nunez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Richter, who scored a run and stole two bases.
Newbury Park's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Thousand Oaks, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Thousand Oaks has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Newbury Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Thousand Oaks' way against Newbury Park when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Thousand Oaks made off with an 11-5 victory. Do the Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
