The Castaic Coyotes will head out to challenge the Canyon Cowboys at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Castaic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Canyon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Castaic's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Heritage Christian as they made off with a 10-0 win. Castaic's victory was all the more impressive since the Warriors were averaging only 2.95 runs allowed on the season.
Orion Gonzalez made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joshua Kurtz, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Jakob Kerr also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Canyon came into Monday's matchup having lost 14 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Buckley by a score of 11-6 on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cowboys needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Like Castaic, Canyon also got a great game from a two-way player: Brody Bayliss. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Bayliss was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Canyon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-19 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Benny Santos was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Phillip Curiel, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Castaic's record is now 14-9. As for Canyon, their record now sits at 3-19.
Everything went Castaic's way against Canyon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Castaic made off with a 9-1 win. Will the Coyotes repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
