The Deer Lakes Lancers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their eighth straight loss. They were outmatched by St. Joseph at home and fell 59-22. Deer Lakes was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-7.
Gia Richter was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with seven steals and six rebounds for St. Joseph. Richter has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Julie Spinelli was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Deer Lakes bumped their record down to 4-12 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.3 points per game. As for St. Joseph, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.
Deer Lakes will head out on the road to face off against Ligonier Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ligonier Valley is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for St. Joseph, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Taylor Allderdice at 7:30 p.m. Taylor Allderdice is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
