The Dekaney Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 18th straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Aldine. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Dekaney in their matchups with Aldine: they've now lost three in a row.
Aldine can attribute much of their success to Melanie Umanzor, who almost dropped a triple-double on 18 points, ten rebounds, and nine blocks. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Porsha Daniels, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Dekaney's loss was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-18. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.6 points per game. As for Aldine, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-19.
Dekaney will take on Eisenhower at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Eisenhower has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 25. As for Aldine, they will face off against Benjamin Davis at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Benjamin Davis presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Aldine in Texas (Benjamin Davis is ranked 412th, while Aldine is ranked 1358th).
