The Central Valley Hawks will venture away from home to challenge the Grace Davis Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Central Valley easily dispatched Ceres on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Hawks fell just short of Wood by a score of 8-6 on Friday. The Hawks' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Central Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ezequiel Verduzco, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Verduzco is on a roll when it comes to hits, as he's now got three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another was Caden Mendonca, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.
Grace Davis never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Johansen on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Vikings. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Spartans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Alex Ceja made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Ceja was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Grace Davis' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-14 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Izak Torres was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He also got three hits, which is notable because Grace Davis is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 3-13 otherwise. Pablo Palominos was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Grace Davis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Central Valley's loss dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Grace Davis, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-14 record.
Central Valley got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Grace Davis by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
