Carlin Weber made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Weber wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Khloe Fernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Alamosa hadn't done well against Rocky Ford recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Mean Moose had just enough and edged out the Meloneers 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mean Moose have posted since September 5th.
Olivia Castillo tossed a big game, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits.
On the hitting side, Leah Higareda was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Shaya Martin, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Lamar's record now sits at 11-8. As for Alamosa, their record is now 14-7.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lamar hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Alamosa struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lamar came out on top in a nail-biter against Alamosa when the teams last played last Saturday, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunder since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
