Baseball Recap: Fort Bragg Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lower Lake

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Bragg). They blew past the Lower Lake Trojans 21-2 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Donavyn Ivey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other pitching news, Tyler Casey looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Fort Bragg got a massive performance out of Chris Hernandez, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Hernandez continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Dane Salo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Fort Bragg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .552 or higher in three consecutive games.

Fort Bragg pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Lower Lake, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Fort Bragg didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-3 victory against Clear Lake on the 29th. As for Lower Lake, they have also already played their next match, a 9-8 win against Middletown on the 29th.
