The San Marin Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Casa Grande Gauchos at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. San Marin will be strutting in after a win while Casa Grande will be coming in after a loss.
San Marin barely beat Terra Linda the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
The result came thanks to Jaden Brown's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Dylan Procopio was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Simpson, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: San Marin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Casa Grande's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Las Lomas.
Logan Gard was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Oliver Smith also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
San Marin moved to 11-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Casa Grande, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-5.
Casa Grande's pitching crew better be locked in on Wednesday. San Marin hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. It's a different story for Casa Grande, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep San Marin in the park?
San Marin couldn't quite finish off Casa Grande in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 and fell 4-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
