The Muir Mustangs will challenge the New Roads Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Muir is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Eagle Rock get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Monday. The Mustangs not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2, 2024.
Miguel Castillo tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Conrad Hunziker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Eduardo Sosa, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, New Roads gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Providence by a score of 9-6. With that win, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Santiago Jimenez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-5. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Donovan Eastwood was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Berumen, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
New Roads kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Muir and bumps their season record up to 7-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for New Roads, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Muir has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like New Roads struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
