Bloomington has gone a perfect 3-0 against Rancho Verde recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Bruins will venture away from home to face off against the Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bloomington comes in on nine and Rancho Verde on seven.
While Bloomington's win against Colton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bruins had just enough and edged out the Yellowjackets 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bruins have posted against the Yellowjackets since April 5, 2022.
The team relied heavily on Andrew Velazquez, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Anthony Quezada, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Bloomington lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Rancho Verde posted their closest win since April 8th on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Canyon Springs, sneaking past 6-4.
Ethan Montolfo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jacob Cabral was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Madden Ferreira was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Bloomington's record is now 21-5. As for Rancho Verde, their record now sits at 18-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bloomington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rancho Verde struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bloomington came out on top in a nail-biter against Rancho Verde in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 7-6. Will the Bruins repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
