The West Catholic Burrs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 24 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Sunday as they easily beat Cristo Rey Philadelphia 62-14 at home. That 62-14 margin sets a new team best for West Catholic this season.
West Catholic found their leader in underclassman Ciana Blake, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyla Coleman, who scored 12 points.
West Catholic pushed their record up to 5-2 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Cristo Rey Philadelphia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Catholic will square off against Neumann-Goretti at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Neumann-Goretti's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups. As for Cristo Rey Philadelphia, they will head out on the road to face off against Girard College at 4:00 p.m. on January 8th. Girard College comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last eight games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
