Hughesville has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Loyalsock Township Lancers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Even though Hughesville has not done well against Southern Columbia Area recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Hughesville blew past Southern Columbia Area, posting a 75-10 win at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Hughesville has managed all season.
It was another big night for Breanna Bobak, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and four steals. That's the first time this season that she scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Ava Snyder, who scored eight points along with seven assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Loyalsock Township had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points), and they went ahead and made it 12 on Wednesday. They blew past Warrior Run 52-18 on the road. Given Loyalsock Township's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Warrior Run is ranked 275th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hughesville pushed their record up to 16-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. Loyalsock Township's record is now 15-2.
Hughesville came up short against Loyalsock Township when the teams last played on January 9th, falling 50-42. Can Hughesville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
