Normal Community extended their winning streak to 18 on Wednesday, bumping them up to 31-2. Everything went their way against the Lincoln-Way West Warriors as they made off with a 10-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Ironmen, who have now won 24 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Lucas Beaty was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Gavin Swartz looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Drew Stevens was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 12 matchups. Jacob Engel was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Normal Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.
As for Lincoln-Way West, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-8. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the four matchups prior), but Normal Community's pitchers proved too tough.
On Lincoln-Way West's side, they got a good showing from Emmett Carlson, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Carlson has allowed since back in April.
At the plate, Lincoln-Way West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Howard, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Normal Community will host Huntley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lincoln-Way West, they will be playing at home against Willowbrook at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln-Way West will need to watch out since Willowbrook has now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
