After flying high against the Granada Matadors last Tuesday, the Monte Vista Mustangs came back down to earth. Monte Vista took a serious blow against the Wolves on Friday, falling 84-39. While losing is never fun, Monte Vista can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Wolves are ranked 13th).
Despite the defeat, Monte Vista saw an underclassman step up: Alyssa Rudd almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 53.8% of Monte Vista's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mahi Jariwala, who scored nine points.
Monte Vista struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Monte Vista's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-10. As for San Ramon Valley, the win was the 22nd in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-1.
Monte Vista does not have any more games scheduled as of now. San Ramon Valley won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. on February 3rd. St. Joseph is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
