Valley Center had lost seven straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-19 to make it eight. They lost 10-4 to the Poway Titans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Titans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 on Monday.
Manny Lopez was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kevin Lopez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
As for Poway, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.
On Poway's side, Justin Julian tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cruz Gonzalez, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Bowser, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
While Valley Center had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
