The Monterey Trail Mustangs's and the Kennedy Cougars's match on Tuesday was close at halftime, but the Monterey Trail Mustangs turned on the heat in the second half with 44 points. Monterey Trail took their game at home with ease, bagging a 73-41 victory over Kennedy. The win was just what Monterey Trail needed coming off of a 68-46 loss in their prior game.
It was another big night for Aaliyah Knox, who scored 21 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Youngblood, who scored 13 points along with five assists and two steals.
Despite the loss, Kennedy still got an impressive performance from Kacie Shinmoto, who scored 21 points along with two steals. Shinmoto is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.
Kennedy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Monterey Trail posted 11 assists.
Monterey Trail pushed their record up to 13-9 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7.
Monterey Trail will be playing in front of their home fans against Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Grant is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season. As for Kennedy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against River City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy is facing River City at the right time seeing as River City is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
